The Enchanting World of Tokaj
The Tokaj wine-growing region stretches across southeastern Slovakia and continues across the border into Hungary. Its exceptional natural conditions and winemaking traditions give rise to distinctive wines that have earned recognition far beyond the region.
Traditional Tokaj grape varieties include Furmint, Lipovina and Yellow Muscat. In the production of certain sweet Tokaj wines, a vital role is played by botrytised grapes – berries affected by the noble rot fungus Botrytis cinerea. These contribute to wines with concentrated flavours and characteristic notes of honey and dried fruit.
